Tesla Motors Inc. (NASDAQ:TSLA) said Tuesday it will not move its U.s. production operations to Mexico, where its new manufacturing facility is set to begin in 2018.

The automaker’s Mexico operations are set to become operational in 2021, and it expects to have a manufacturing and sales presence in the country by 2025, CEO Elon Musk said during a media briefing.

“We’ll continue to build our U. S. production line,” Musk said, noting the company plans to continue to manufacture parts for Tesla vehicles.

“But we don’t want to go anywhere in Mexico, because the current production capacity there is simply not sustainable.”

In December, the U
